Dirk Staf

His story

Dirk has a degree in translation sciences and 22 years of experience in education (all levels) as a teacher of English and German. In recent years, he has specialised in international project work and blended and hybrid learning. He constantly reinvents his didactic approach to his language subjects: he constantly analyses, reflects, steers and adapts his lessons according to his target group. By doing so, he constantly interlinks with teaching content from other subjects and works on improved evaluation strategies.

Since 2017 and together with other educational entrepreneurs, Dirk has also committed himself as adviser, application designer and project manager to the creation of new secondary schools and the execution of numerous EU projects. The focus has been on improving the classical structures in education, granting early access to entrepreneurship and increasing autonomy, involvement and competencies of both teachers and students.

Dirk finds the cement between his educational improvement initiatives in the international cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and good practices, including through Erasmus+ and ESF, in secondary and higher education. In 2019, together with his colleague Diederik Roelandts, Dirk was awarded the 3rd 'Innovation in Education' Prize issued by Queen Paola of Belgium for his efforts in the field of internationalisation.

Dirk also gained a lot of knowledge and experience as a sworn technical and legal translator and interpreter. He has worked for 25 years as for the court in Leuven and Brussels and agencies and clients across Europe and the US.

He spends his free-time as a coach on the football pitch, as a player on the tennis court and at the piano.

Language skills: Dutch, German, English, French and Italian.
